*The Independent Climb

Thirteen more days to the advent of Final Exams, but yet, the atmosphere in Sunway University College could probably fool ayone. The students- those sitting for the exams- are not replicating the charged pushes of their lecturers, who surprisingly are expressing more worry than the students. Play cotinue dominating work as students struggle to accelerate and shift gears into revision mode. Even the gradual diminishing of available time to study doesn't seem to bother anyone.

The past week witnessed many unpleasant occurences for certain individuals. Hans Basil fled college for home for a potentially fatal family situation, and despite enjoying the luxury of being home for 5 days, he could not completely enjoy it due to the unexpectancy of his family trauma, which rendered all available time to revise worthless. Sue Anne and John Bow took advantage of the long weekend and headed home, leavng Nick Ivans bored out of his mind in his resort of solace and solitude. With reliable buddy Hans pulverized with his own health problems and family issues, Nick suffered 3 agonising lonely days with the sound of silence.

Perhaps it was the boredom, or the perpetual failure with girls, that drove Nick to near insanity, with his constant word-vomitting about Sunway's current King, Lukas, a clear indication that the Face of a Thousand Impressions nursed a crush on the face that would make thousands of girls go weak in the knees. While Hans found his chatter amusing at first, he soon realised that it was a subconcious act, and when confronted, Nick look completely thrown off-guard, but experience told Hans that Nick had been caught red handed, and red faced. While Nick's newly coined phrase "everywhere I go there's a girl I wanna know" looks a little contrived, his crush on Lukas just makes things more confusing. Was it just fluctuating emotions that was making Nick think and feel irrationally? Was Nick in a experimenting phase? Or was the real Nick finally showing?

"Emonomo'" Hans Basil was enduring one of the toughest weeks he had ever faced in college. Two straight nights of 2-hours of sleep was deteriorating his mind and body at a critical rate. With a week full of tests and trials, he had failed to get past the first-Econs-convincingly, as his weakened mind could not contain all pertinent information- the first sign of his insomnia wreaking him. While his studies were fluctuating, his new blue eyes were creating quite a stir in the college grounds, with Angie and Mitch falling for the glimmering pair, while John and Sue did not jump on the bandwagon. As for Nick, he claimed Hans now looked like a vampire, a befitting title, given his physical shape resembled that of a zombie. Hans may want to brush himself up though, as his 'progress' with the hot newbie was flat, and with word out that he has tons of competitors, his diminishing hopes look very unlikely, unless he could somehow emerge from the others and stand out.

Angie Flo had built a good rapport with the 3 J's- Joe, Javis James and Leo Jon over the past week, and now, was hoping that Sue and Has could emulate the trend and join her. With the All-Sitiawan Rejects all but over, perhaps a new clique, one that could yet challenge the Hometowners, was in order. Lunch was a very clear indication that a major shuffle was in order, with John Bow and Dan Wise flying the flag for the Hometowners, Nick Ivans trroping off with a Chemistry classmate while Joe and Javis invited Hans and Sue out to Sunway Pyramid for lunch, where few others, including Leo, would be. While Hans was unwilling, he could not refuse Sue's pleading gestures, and acquiesced to her requests. With Angie joining later on, the fun just multiplied. But not all things were the way she had planned though, especially for hersef. While her feelings for Javis was amplifying, rumour had it Sunway's proverbial flirt also had a crush on him, and the news deflated Angie who made a decision to stop pursuing te guy she likes. Perhaps it was a wise move given that Finals were just around the corner.

Fallen Queen Sanya Dival had gone M.I.A. for weeks, and had slipped under the radar. Likewise, Diane Shine had followed suit, her personal troubles bothering her too much for her to get past it. Another individual battling a personal problem was John Bow, who had made a shocking discovery a week ago and had planned an all out assault since to try and solve the issue, only to display a certain sense of maturity in dealing with studies first. And it was studies that made him discuss with Hans yet again about the future, seeing that neither of them, especially Hans, was secure or had a firm conclusion. And to compound his issues at hand, it seems a certain lady had caught his eye in college, and he attempted to pull out all the stops. Only problem was, he had no idea how to. Seems like almost everyone was having issues with their hearts.

Last semester's Silent Hottie had evolved out of her shell and had undergone of of the biggest transitions this year. Unfavourable events had made her a Good Girl Gone Terrible, but it seems fortune does favour the bold, as recent events and occurences seem to have elevated her status- not so silent anymore- into the summit as she looks to have knocked Diane off the newly-unstable perch. While Lukas continues reigning as the King, the post for the Queen looks very insecure. While Sue had herself imprinted in a fashion magazine and garnered attention faster than Nick's voice had the past few weeks, it was the attention she was getting now that ingrained her on Sunway's perch. In addition, she had shocked everyone by beating the master of English Hans Basil in the latest assessment, a feat that definitely helped her assension.

Fresh from dates with Eugene, Sue received much more male attention, with other hot-headed guys heaping praises and the alike on her in hopes of snagging her. While Sue basked in the adoration and attention, her heart still ached as the one she so desperately yearned for was the one who did not pay her any attention. Furthermore, she had heard gossip that Cute Boy Leo was taken. It seems that every girl to have ever graced the title as the "It" girl subsequently gets inundated with issues. Perhaps that's the cost of being too high and mighty, or there was fine print under the emblazoned word 'Queen'.

As the final weeks of MUFY comes to an excruciating close, Sunway University College could be expected to go into overdrive as the reality of exams hit everyone head on. Aside from Finals, one issue that got everyone talking was the Prom Night. Dan Wise had made it clear he was not making an appearance, and John, Nick and Hans were doubtful as none felt the need to go, although Hans was unsure if his date with Sanya still stood, and John did not know the extent of Mitch's proposal to make him her date. Sue and Angie desperately wanted to go, and failed in their atempts to persuade the guys. Hans' plea to focus on finals first fell on deaf ears, but perhaps he himself got sucked into the prom hype, planning an outrageous surprise with Ash for the prom. With MUFY slated to end in another 3 to 4 weeks, the final stages looks to have a few surprises in store, before everyone bids their final farewell.
