*The Depreciation Of Appreciation

The floodgates had opened. Emotionally, academically, and relationships-wise. The signs had been all too clear the previous weeks, and for those who heeded the warnings, there was nothing they could do but stick to their comfort zone or cry their troubles out while remaining aware of the turmoils occuring around them. For the unawares, they continue plunging in meaningless depths of their own seas and oceans, oblivious to the state of chaos, but at the same time accidentally adding to it. And what makes everything worse is the advent of Finals, which constitutes to the remaining 4 weeks left being replete with stress and work.

For the first time, the weekend was completely dominated by studies. John Bow, Sue Anne, Hans Basil and their groupmember Laura decided to meet on a blazing Saturday to accomplish what none was good at- Accounts. And the meeting proved that accurately, with 5 hours flying past, and no productive achievements. In between the wasted hours, Hans and John had a rare personal conversation while the former and Sue enjoyed a brain-buzzing break. After John headed back for dinner with a fellow Hometowner, Laura trailed in his wake for stress relief in the form of shopping, leaving the Hans and Sue alone, who started the battle to overcome the killer Economics test held on Monday. Nick Ivans and Ash crashed the study session, though the former left soon after. The trio headed for dinner, during which a misunderstanding caused yet another squabble between Hans and Nick. Nick later tried explaining, but Hans did not buy it. A sign of the times ahead?

What was though, was the effect the killer test had on the students who had to suffer the agony of depleting their brain cells for the sake of understanding a completely incomprehensible topic. 9 hours was not enough for Hans and Sue, while Diane Shine, who had joined the duo, also stuttered in cramming her head with notes. Angie Flo and John were not faring any better, with the former broken down to the same level as Hans. After they decided to rest their tired and obliterated minds, Angie and Hans took some time reminiscing of the past, where everything was seemingly smooth and serene. How they longed for a past to be the present and future, but everyone knows the past remains in the past.

The week got off to a terrible start, no thanks to the brain-zapping Econs test that killed everyone's mood. And it got worse for Diane Shine when she discovered a dark and absolutely shocking secret she could never have guessed or thought of. Stuck in a situation she had never been in, she sought Hans' help. While the message shocked him, it was just another crack on the wall of the All-Sitiawan Rejects, and there seem to be no way back to the pleasant ways it once was. To compound the Outsiders' misery, the week-long serenity ended with the return of two Hometowners, with the obvious nonchalance and indifference displayed by one towards an Outsider- signifying the restart of the great Hometown Divide.

Suddenly, an influx of love stories had pervaded Sunway University College. Angie Flo and Javis James, despite both parties denying any love-connections, symbolised a happy couple, their friendship taking great leaps forward. Sue Anne's feelings towards Leo Jon and Dan Wise continue free-falling and accelerating, but it seems her admirer, Eugene, had disrupted the flow as he too seemed to be making progress with the Silent Hottie, the pair enjoying their first dinner together. For Sanya Dival, the re-emergence of her absent days began again as she continue fraternizing with her own friends and her new boyfriend. But love was not only coming from the girls, although perhaps the 4-letter word was too strong to be used for the next 2 persons- Hans and Nick.

Nick put his emotions on the line yet again after his numerous failings, and yet again, he lost, the girl he had his eyes on already taken and not available. The only good thing perhaps was that he had not fallen in too far. For Hans, he put behind him the shock of his ex's quick move on, eyeing a seemingly hard-to-get hottie, one who Dan Wise knew. Hans, despite being experienced in the dating field, had never had the need to chase a girl, and with this one, he knew he had to pull out all the stops. Dan warned that it would not be easy as she had extemely high standards, and Hans knew full well he did not fare well with challenges. His mission was aided though when John soon became acquainted with her via tennis, and John pledged his full assistance to Hans in attaining his goal. Will Hans get the girl, or will John's efforts be in vain?

True to form, one specific 'lady gaga' was indeed following the singer's route to international superstardom. Sue Anne caught a roving reporter's eye with her chic heels, and proceeded with multiple shoots that was bound to end up in fashion columns in newspapers. Could this blast her social status off the roof and grab the title of 'Sunway's "It" Girl' from Diane Shine? She wasn't the only one thrusted into the spotlight though, as Nick's ascention to fame continued gradually. The kerfuffle over his steamy video had barely fizzled when he gained attention by virtue of his singing abilities from an observant stranger. Is Nick destined for fame and the glamour of the spotlight? It seems Sunway University College is doing well in churning out young starlets.

Yet another test, this time not as "assholic", and not as difficult, as most individuals overcame it with ease. With no more significant events the rest of the week, most individuals were relieved, but in life there has to be a balance, and when academic stress subsides, the emotional once occurs. Angie poured her aching heart out to Hans who felt completely helpless, and another troubled lady, Sue, poured her concerns out to him. It seems everyone had issues to deal with, and probably to escape that, Sue and Hans accompanied Nick to Sunway Pyramid to get his shoes, afterwhich they had dinner, and that was when Nick was called out by the stranger for his voice.

As days turn to weeks, the Finals draw closer, dumping more stress on students. Emotionally, many are facing troubled times as they struggle to seed out truth from the outrageous and burgeoning lies, and the fact that their good faith placed in "friends" had returned unappreciated or worse, manipulated. With just a month before the curtains close, hectic days are getting chaotic as trust is strewn and misplaced, friends turn on each other and others not involved continue living in ignorance. Perhaps the seperation of everyone after MUFY would be a good thing after all.
